This festival Cancel 150 Flights in Northern Thailand

Chiang Mai - lantern festival, Loy Krathong in Thailand turned out to have an impact on the world of aviation. A total of 150 flights in Northern Thailand were canceled during the three days of the festival.


Loy Kratong Festival is currently underway in Thailand. The festival was held for 3 days, on Tuesday (24/11) to Thursday (26/11). The festival is indeed suck a lot of tourists who want to see the magical moments in which hundreds of thousands of lanterns flown into the air at nightfall.

But apparently, these lanterns fly event that is not a good impact on the world of aviation. Collected from several sources on Wednesday (11/25/2015), there were some regional airports in Northern Thailand are canceling aircraft flying for fear of passing accidentally exposed to thousands of lanterns are flown by citizens.

Northern Thailand region, especially the city of Chiang Mai is known for the most festive in organizing the festival, which is also known as Yi Peng festival it. Chiang Mai International Airport, carrying cancel 84 flights and 51 more flights were rescheduled, including 12 of which are international flights. While Chiang Rai International Airport cancels 6 flights and reschedule another flight 5.

Though Chiang Mai Airport authorities have warned the people living in five districts around the airport, in order to turn on and fly lanterns event centered on a single day, on Wednesday night, at the top at 21.00 local time. But it seems appeal was not heeded.

Throughout the year 2013 alone, the organization of the Festival Loy Krathong left 1,414 pieces lanterns in Chiang Mai Airport runway. While last year, dropping down to 142 pieces lanterns are landing on the airport runway. It is very unfortunate when it comes to cultural attractions is even disrupt aviation.
